Ajijic, Mexico
Back to Casa de la Rusa

Ajijic is a village on the shores of Mexico’s largest lake, Lake Chapala, a 30 minute taxi ride from Guadalajara airport.

Tourists have enjoyed the area for over 100 years, drawn by the near perfect climate (warm days, cool nights) the beauty of the countryside, and the gentle and hospitable Mexican people.

The favorable exchange rates makes dining out in the dozens of excellent restaurants, or shopping for handicrafts or clothes an inexpensive pleasure.

The colorful Wednesday market with luscious fruits and vegetables, handicrafts, clothing, jewelry and art is a weekly treat.

Golf courses and tennis courts welcome players on a daily or seasonal basis.

Nearby San Juan Cosala has hot thermal baths with pools for swimming or soaking and lake-view patios and restaurants.

Chapala has a “ beer garden” patio open every Sunday with big band music and dancing, food and drink.

Frequent buses take you to anywhere, so it is easy to explore other lakeside communities or Guadalajara.  If you wish to go further afield you can still travel by bus or rent a car locally.

And there always seems to be a festival to fill the air with colour, music, tantalizing aromas, and crowds of happy people.  Mexico is a treat for all the senses!

Thousands of Canadians and Americans live here year-round.  They say summer is the most beautiful time of all with brief periods of rain to wash the streets, freshen the air, turn the mountains green and make the colours even more brilliant.

We invite you to share the magic of this very special place.
